Papa Smurf - the leader of the Smurfs, wearing red clothing and sporting his white beard. He is very good with potions and magical spells and is the one the Smurfs turn to when things get bad. He is 529 years old, the oldest Smurf.

Smurfette - Was the only female smurf until the creation of Sassette and is the center of attention for all other smurfs. Was created by Gargamel and had black hair, but then it turned blonde when she turned good.

Angel Smurf - Appears when a Smurf has a moral dilemma and represents the good of that Smurfs conscience. First appeared in episode 4 of the cartoon Smurfs. Usually appears along with Devil Smurf.

Devil Smurf - Appears along with Angel Smurf to try to convince a Smurf to do evil when presented with a moral dilemma. He typically wins, except with Papa Smurf who is too wise to give in. First appeared in Season 4 and appears multiple times thereafter.

Wooly Smurf - Wears a wool hat and talks with a Texan accent. He wears sheers on his belt which he uses to shear sheep with to make clothes for all the Smurfs.

Weepy Smurf -
Cries for just about any reason at all...a real crybaby. He's typical seen (pictured) with a handkerchief.
One one episode titled "Crying Smurfs" Hefty Smurf has to rescue Weepy Smurf from Gargamel.

Jokey Smurf - Loves to play tricks and jokes on others. Most of the time he gives a gift like the one pictured to the right and tells the other Smurf it's a gift and then it explodes in their face. Somtimes Jokey Smurf plays tricks at the wrong times. His famous quote is "You have no sense of humor."

Hefty Smurf - The strongest of the Smurfs, amazing strength. His best friend is Handy and he often kicks Brainy out of the village. He loves to lift weights and his arm has a tatto on it of a heart with arrow through it.

Grouchy Smurf - At first, he was a normal Smurfy but after being bitten by a fly he has been grouchy ever since. He usually has a scowl on his face and always says, "I hate (something someone mentions)." Although grouchy most of the time he does have a soft spot for the Smurflings and Baby Smurf.

Farmer Smurf - He is responsible for planting and harvesting all of the food for the Smurfs. He
usually wears wooden clogs, green overalls and a straw hat syled like the other Smurfs.
He has a New England farmer accent.

Clumsy Smurf - One of the main characters of the Smurfs. He is, of course, very clumsy and many times causing trouble for the Smurfs because of it. He is also slow and so many times gets caught by Gargamel. Ironically, because of his klutiness he manages to keep the Smurfs from getting caught by Gargamel. His best friend is Brainy and he loves to collect rocks and has a big affection for Smurfette.

Clockwork Smurf - A robot Smurf that was invented by Handy Smurf. He was made to do various jobs around the village and could usually do them better than any Smurf. Later, Handy Smurf also invented his companion, Clockwork Smurfette. He is larger than the other Smurfs.
